There is a lot of debate over Canada's Bill C-32 which deals with copy right issues.
Actors believe the bill provides too much leeway for consumers. They are pushing for a levy to be added to hard drives and mp3 players in Canada. They are also against providing teachers with greater exemption with copy righted material used for education.

There are soooooo many things wrong with how this goes down.
ReplyDelete1)Just because you are famous doesn't mean parliament should listen to you more.
2) The economics of the levy's just don't work. If you divide the amount collected by the number of artists then it's a tiny amount. Also, it works on the assumption that all media (like MP3 players and HDDs) will be used to pirate content, which is not the case.
3)Are actors really so money-grabbing that they want to stop educators from teaching with their material.
4)Canadian content creators should realize that having their material copied more is probably the only way that they are going to be able to compete with the better funded and publicized American content.
